Thoughts After getting the book

I learned from making Changing The Subject 20 years of Project at High Tech High that we should have made this book every year and at every school with our name. 
It would have been a record of the work students made, what teachers created for their students, showing how the school grew and improved or did not. 

When I was a teacher at High Tech High, my class self-published 21 catalogs of student work. In most cases, the students handed in their work as formatted book pages explaining what they did and made independently or with partners. I felt that this was part of the learning as much as the work itself.

Having a record of the work students was invaluable for me to grow as a teacher.  I used them as touchstones for my students and to one-up my practice every year. 

With my teaching partner Kelly Williams, we created a "Teacher Reflection Project" that teachers would do with their students' work that semester. I made a video and a poster to explain the process.(Below) The obvious Teacher Reflection Project would be a book about the project, student work, and learning. 

I hope that teachers, administrators, students, and parents see Changing the Subject  as a model for the norm in their schools every year.
